Steaua Arena is the most modern stadium in Romania. It is a part of Steaua Sports Complex, located in South- East Bucharest, within Ghencea district, and it is a classical football pitch (with no athletics track).
The construction was inaugurated in April 1974, when Steaua played a friendly match against OFK Belgrade (2-2). In the beginning of the 90's, the construction of the lighting system started, to be inaugurated on August 14, 1991 (Steaua- FCM Bacau 4-1). Later, in 1996, the stadium was completely renovated as seats were put on stands and the training camp facility underneath stand II was upgraded to reach the level of a four-star hotel.
Steaua Arena is the pitch where Romania's national team also played the home matches (highest achievement- reaching the World Cup quarter-final in 1994.
Steaua fans are extremely proud of Steaua Arena. Unique by its facilities, the stadium can host football matches according to FIFA and UEFA standards both in the comfort and security of the spectators and the mass-media conveniences.
The Arena is equipped with spectators' surveillance system (7 fixed and 9 mobile cameras) with the possibility to video record the access into the stands. There is also a very professional camera at the official stand that, in case, can be used by security.
